my journey
In September 2017, I was 11 months postpartum with my first child and unhappy with my body's appearance. Alongside the challenges of new parenthood, I had recently relocated from one military base to another and had taken on a new teaching position, leading to multiple life transitions. The exhaustion from sleep deprivation and low energy levels prompted a strong desire for a change in my life.
My journey began when I decided to join a gym and hire a personal trainer, which introduced me to macro-tracking and weight training, resulting in immediate physical improvements. This experience not only transformed my physique but also heightened my awareness of food choices and encouraged intentional daily routines. Self-care became a top priority, leading to a shift in sleeping patterns to accommodate early morning workouts.
When I became pregnant with my second child in 2019, the foundation of knowledge in nutrition and fitness acquired from my previous journey significantly eased my pregnancy and postpartum experience compared to my first. Armed with the understanding that self-care was paramount, I effortlessly transitioned into parenting two children, recognizing that prioritizing my own well-being was essential for the well-being of my family as a whole.
Then about a year later everything changed. The military moved us, I started a new job, my brother was diagnosed with cancer, and my baby started having febrile seizures. To say my stress and cortisol levels skyrocketed is an understatement. My job was stressing me out, I was constantly taking off work when my daughter had a fever, my husband was traveling way more than he ever had in his career, and I was constantly worried about my brother's health. I decided to quit teaching for good once summer came and decided to pursue an LLC and focus on health coaching. Then I got pregnant with baby #3.
This third pregnancy was very uncomfortable for me. My body was in pain, I was exhausted, and my stress was on overload. Once I had my third daughter (yes…I’m a 3x girl mom!), I was able to drop 30 lbs quickly, but struggled to lose the last 20 lbs to get me back to pre-pregnancy weight. When my brother passed away, I was not in the right frame of mind to focus on my own health; I was just trying to get through one day at a time. I began working as a therapist at a chiropractor’s office, who introduced me to functional medicine. We ran some tests and I realized some of my hormones were depleted. I decided to take some supplements to help my adrenals and partake in a gut health program to see if that would change anything. I was regularly waking up bloated, having inflammation in my joints, and fatigued throughout the day. The gut health program changed all of that by bringing my energy back and eliminating my sugar cravings and bloat.
I see the path ahead as an opportunity to set a shining example for my children. In my journey, I've witnessed older generations aging rapidly, primarily due to a lack of awareness about the crucial elements of nutrition, strength, resilience, and a growth mindset. I've heard loved ones express their discomfort with aches and pains, yet they often hesitate to take action to improve their health. Common excuses like 'I'm too busy' or 'I don't have enough time' are all too familiar.
It can be disheartening to witness, especially when you have the desire to make a change but might feel like you lack motivation, knowledge, confidence, or mental strength. I want you to know that you have the capacity to make remarkable changes in your life! While lifestyle transformations don't happen overnight, I'm here with the expertise and unwavering support to guide you.
Together, we can embark on a journey of gradual, sustainable changes that will lead to long-lasting improvements in your overall health and well-being. Remember, you have the power to take charge of your health, feel great in your own skin again, and inspire those around you. Let's start this transformative journey toward optimal health and well-being, one step at a time.
